Mother Nature sent plenty of sunshine to help make Jackson Brownew's first return to Tanglewood in 15 years a big success. Browne and his colleagues delivered an even notable for giving the audience a chance to enjoy his biggest hits as well as less frequently heard numbers. He paid tribute to James Taylor, who usually packs the lawn and shed on this occasion with a rendition of "Sweet Baby James" which had the audience in raptures. Violinist Sara Watkins and her band which includes her brother added to the pleasures of this popular artists concert.

Of course, no 4th of July concert at Tanglewood is complete without Fireworks. This year's display was colorful as ever. A splendid finish to a crowd-pleasing evening.

Mother Nature's good mood held for the next day's first program of The Boston Symphony Orchestra's 2013 season at Tanglewood. Annother crowd pleaser, this one an All-Tchaikovsky evning with Joshua Bell giving a stirring rendition of the composer's violin concerto. It's hard to believe that this marked the charismatic Bell's 25th consecutive summer at Tanglewood. Wasn't he a budding prodigy just yesterday?

Popular guest conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos was at the helm, following the Bell solo with a rousing Symphony No. 5.
