Another Decision Making Round For Mark St. Germain's God Committee
And so The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee moved, first to Off-Broadway and then to the Circle in the Square on Broadway where it continues to be a Wow! hit for family audiences. And The God Committee has found a small Off-Broadway house, the Little Lambs Theater.
Kevin Moriarty, the current production's director, has trimmed off some of the fat without losing St. Germain's better moments. The cast, except for Ron Ohrbach and Amy Van Nostrand, is also new. They do their level best to make their characters less figures in a clinical TV documentary who stand for various positions about who should get the one available heart. Unfortunately, none of them can do much to make this come close to tugging hard at the audience's heartstrings. .-- Elyse Sommer
